STEP 1: WASH

Wash frequently with a pH balanced and biodegradable (environmentally-friendly) marine wash. One which is specifically formulated for painted or gel coat finishes. These types of products offer concentrated cleaning strength, while been gentle to the surface and existing sealant (or wax) protection. A premium boat wash will safely remove embedded dirt and grime, scum, salt spray, bird droppings and loose contaminants on fibreglass, gel coat, metal, acrylic, vinyl, glass and painted surfaces. A high quality marine wash will be free-rinsing and contain special conditioners which resist water spotting and streaking.

Avoid using washing-up (dish wash) detergents or household cleaners, as these weaken or strip off protective sealant (or wax) coatings and accelerate oxidation. Always wash surfaces when they are cool to the touch and preferably in the shade (out of direct sunshine). For larger areas, wash and rinse in sections and dry off excess rinse water afterwards, to avoid water spotting.

Recommended Product: Meguiar's Flagship Premium Marine Wash Shampoo & Conditioner (without wax). Gentle premium blend shampoo and conditioner enriches fibreglass and gel coat finishes, leaving a radiant shine. Conditioning agents will leave your finish so slick that water actually sheets off, reducing wiping and drying time. Biodegradable and safe for the environment.

STEP 2: CLEAN and POLISH (Perfect)

While washing removes loose contaminants, further cleaning or surface prep is required to remove bonded contaminants, oxidation and finish defects. Bonded contamination includes environmental fallout / air pollution (acid rain) and paint overspray. Finish defects include oxidation, swirl marks, scratches and water spot etching. Bonded contaminants can be removed with a detailing clay bar and quick detailer spray. Lightly oxidised paintwork or gel coat can be restored with a non-abrasive cleaner sealant. Moderately to heavily oxidised gel coat requires more intensive measures (a cutting polish or abrasive compound). These remove the layer of dead, oxidised gel coat, to reveal a sound layer underneath. As long as the oxidation has not penetrated through the gel coat entirely, there is a lower layer which will respond to polishing. A light cut or finishing polish restores a high-gloss shine to the painted or gel coat finish. This is the final preparatory step used for gloss maximisation, before application of a surface protectant (sealant or wax).

Recommended Products:

Light to Moderate Oxidation: Re-Structure Marine Micro-Finishing Compound (Non-Abrasive Cleaner Sealant). Oxidation Remover / Surface Cleanser, Colour Restorer, Gloss Enhancer; Blemish and Scratch Remover [Filler] for Fibreglass and Metal Surfaces; Excellent for use on all Paints, Fibreglass Gel Coat, Stainless Steel, Chrome and Polished Aluminium. For Nearly-New and Dull Surface Conditions. Follow-up afterwards with an application of Re-Structure Professional Polish, for long-lasting protection.

N.B. Micro Finishing Compound has no abrasives or rouges, so will not remove any damaged gelcoat. You will need to use a rubbing compound and buffer to bring back your gel coats natural shine.

or

Paint Correction (Scratch and Swirl Removal): Gtechniq P1 Nano Polish removes light oxidation, scratches and swirl marks, from both painted and gel coat finishes. P1 is a unique nanocomposite polish which redefines paint correction. It cuts boat and yacht polishing times in half with superior and longer lasting gloss. For normal paintwork (and gel coat) correction, P1 is the only polish you will ever need. P1 produces great finishes by both machine and hand. For the best and fastest results use in conjunction with a polishing machine, fitted with lambswool or foam (cutting, polishing, finishing) pads, depending on the degree of cut required. P1 removes scratches and swirls safely and quickly without leaving holograms behind. P1 is a very different kind of polish. Breakthroughs in nano-structured composite materials allowed us to develop an incredibly uniform abrasive particle on the nanoscopic scale. This allows us to manufacture a polish that requires almost no lubrication, which offers three important advantages. The first is speed / effort. With many more active particles working the surface, the polish works faster with less effort than traditional compound abrasives. Secondly with virtually no lubricant, a P1 finish doesn't suffer "drop back". This is where the lubricants in a traditional polish hide minor imperfections, typically micro scratches in the polished surface, only for them to be revealed after the lubricants have washed off. With P1 what you see is what you get. Finally, temperature. Or to be more precise, the lack of it. Smaller active particle size means the surface doesn't heat up nearly as much as with conventional abrasives. This means much less likelihood of burning through paint and it means you can make several passes over the same area to remove stubborn scratches, without fear of over polishing.

Marine Applications: P1 Nanocomposite Polish offers faster than ever perfect finish using less product and fewer stages than traditional polishing systems on both GRP and marine paint. Furthermore P1 only removes damaged GRP or paint molecules and as such will not compromise the durability of your yacht's finish, typically caused by harsh polishing compounds. P1 is faster, less damaging to substrates and produces a better finish than current generation polishes. This is possible because we have been able to source a very consistently sized sub micron abrasive particle. As the particle is so consistent we are able to drop almost all the lubricants from the formula. What this means is that while polishing you have significantly more active ingredient working the surface thereby making the polish work faster than conventional compounds etc. Furthermore, having such tiny abrasive particles means P1 generates significantly less heat than ordinary compounds plus it also means than instead of needing a cutting compound, medium compound and finishing glaze all which requiring at least one sometimes two different polishing pads; P1 will typically do the work of these three products with less holograms and no drop back. Perfecting marine surfaces using P1 typically requires half the number of passes with the rotary machine than with conventional systems. P1 is the only polish that does not massively compromise the longevity of Awlgrip finishes. P1 is very versatile. You can use it by hand and also with either a random orbital (dual-action) or rotary polisher. You might think that because most hand polishes contain a high percentage of fillers, P1 would be an also-ran if used by hand. In fact the opposite is true. Even we did not expect P1 to be a strong performer when used by hand, but when we tested it against products widely regarded as the best hand polishes, P1 showed them the way. Furthermore because P1 doesn't use fillers your new finish that also expended a lot of elbow grease will not deteriorate! However for fastest and best results we recommend using P1 with a machine polisher.

Final Finishing (Hologram Removal on Dark Colours): Gtechniq P2 Hologram Removing Polish makes light work of tricky paint colours. Initially developed for marine paints that are notoriously difficult to perfect, P2 brings effortless hologram-free finishing within everyone's grasp on the widest range of paint surfaces. Brilliant on dark solid colours such as navy and black. Everyone needs P2 on their product shelf. Whether you are a seasoned paint professional, part-time detailer or just demand mirror finish perfection, P2 gives you the ultimate high-gloss finish on all paints and gel coats. Apply by hand or machine polisher, using soft foam finishing pads.

STEP 3: PROTECT

The only way to keep your boat looking great for an extended period of time is to apply a protective coating to preserve the surface/finish from the elements. Professional sealant formulas provide an extremely durable protective layer which seals in the deep shine created in the polishing step. This in turn acts like a shield to help prevent environmental and industrial pollutants from coming into direct contact with the surface. Thus providing long-lasting protection against marine contamination, corrosion and the sun's ultraviolet rays. A premium quality nano sealant will also leave behind a glass-like, super-slick, non-stick finish.

Recommended Product: Re-Structure Professional Marine Polish (Sealant). Last Step Product or One-Step Polish / Protectant (Nano-Technology Sealant). Suitable for Marine Paints, Fibreglass Gel Coat, Glass, Plexiglass, Polycarbonate, Carbon Fibre, Brass, Chrome, Stainless Steel, Polished Aluminium, Alloy Wheels, Non-Porous Hard / Smooth Plastics, Granite and Varnished Woods.

Shine, Seal and Protect with Re-Structure Professional Polish + RALG® - An Optically Clear, High-Performance Sealant.

STEP 4: MAINTAIN (Quick Detailing)

Frequent surface care is easy surface care. The more frequently you care for your boat, the easier the detailing process will be. Maintenance is the frequent removal of contaminants before they have a chance to bond to the surface or etch it. This step is designed to help you safely remove contaminants without stripping your sealant protection, leaving your boat looking as though it has just been detailed.

Recommended Product: Re-Structure Marine Mirasol (Sealant Spray). Express sealant spray or Re-Structure Professional Polish (sealant coating) booster. For exterior and interior surfaces - protects from harmful UV rays, dirt and staining for up to 6 months; Excellent for use on all paints, fibreglass gel coat, glass, plexiglass, stainless steel, chrome, polished aluminium, brass, plastics, vinyl and leather. (Mirasol = High-Gloss Finish on Glossy Surfaces and Natural/Satin Finish on Matt Surfaces).

Restructure Mirasol Sealant Spray provides a glass-like hard coating that maintains a protective seal on paint, fibreglass gel coat, chrome, stainless steel and polished aluminum. Mirasol Sealant Spray also enhances the shine and extends the lifespan of RMP Professional Polish (Sealant). Mirasol removes lighter contaminants and protects (fortifies) the existing sealant coating. Unlike carnauba based products, Mirasol Sealant Spray does not yellow over time.

Re-Structure (professional marine) compounds, polishes and sealants are among the best performing and user-friendly products on the market. Fantastic results are easily achievable when employing a methodical approach, having good technique and showing meticulous attention to detail. Restructure products are very forgiving. They cannot be over applied, nor require application with precision timing. As the products get fully absorbed into the finish, excess residues are minimal and wipe off very easily. In fact, Restructure products are applied (and topped up) with more simplicity than most other polish and sealant (paint protection) systems. They can even be used as one-step products, much like an over-the-counter sealant polish protectant. Therefore are perfectly suitable for use by beginners and hobbyists (detailing enthusiasts), not solely professional detailers.

Re-Structure Micro Finishing Compound: Oxidation remover / surface cleanser, colour restorer, gloss enhancer; Blemish and light scratch remover (filler). Suitable for nearly-new and dull (lightly to moderately oxidised) paint / gel coat / surface conditions. Micro Finishing Compound is an excellent preparatory product (pre-cleaner), before the application of Re-Structure Professional Polish (Sealant).

Directions: Wash and dry vehicle / aircraft / watercraft thoroughly, before applying Micro Finishing Compound. This particular compound should be followed up with application(s) of Re-Structure Professional Polish (Sealant). These products should be used exclusively, as they are not suitable for mixing with other manufacturers wax or polymer based products.

Always work in the shade or out of direct sunlight (strong sunshine). It is best to apply the compound when surface is cool to the touch, otherwise the product may dry out too quickly, making application more difficult. Ideally, work indoors, in a cool, dry environment with good lighting and ventilation. Avoid contact with porous plastic and rubber trim. If you get any compound on same, just wipe it off there and then.

Shake well before use. Re-Structure Micro Finishing Compound should be applied to a cool, clean, dry surface only.

Hand Application: Do not dampen your applicator pad before use. The pad should only be damp with product (not water) during application. Place a pea sized amount of compound (no more) on a soft foam applicator pad (the softer black side of our special tri-foam applicators). Work on a 1 ft x 1 ft area at a time. This will ensure the product does not dry out before you work it fully into the finish. Using light to moderate pressure, rub briskly in a circular motion. Apply sufficient pressure initially, to remove microscopic dirt particles and oxidation. Continue rubbing in compound until it disappears (gets absorbed ... more readily when using gentle pressure) and a high-gloss shine is visible. Wipe off any excess product (compound residue) carefully as you go, with a soft microfibre buffing cloth. Move to another section and repeat the application process, using a pea sized amount of compound for every square foot of surface area. Finish one panel or area entirely (apply product and buff off any excess) before moving on to the next section.

Machine Application: Re-Structure Micro Finishing Compound (non-abrasive) may also be applied by dual-action polisher, fitted with a foam polishing pad. Use small amounts of compound and work on a 2 ft x 2 ft area at a time. Allow the machine to operate under its own weight, without exerting much downward pressure. Work the compound into the finish at low to moderate speeds only (using slow overlapping passes), until it disappears and a high-gloss shine is visible. Wipe off any excess product (compound residue) carefully as you go, with a soft microfibre buffing cloth. Move to another section and repeat the process.

Follow-up by applying Re-Structure Professional Polish (Sealant) for long-lasting protection.

Re-Structure Professional Polish (Sealant): Last step product or one-step polish / protectant (nano-technology sealant). Suitable for marine, aviation and automotive paints; fibreglass gel coat, glass, plexiglass, polycarbonate, non-porous (hard / smooth) plastics, carbon fibre, varnished woods, brass, chrome, stainless steel, polished aluminium, alloy wheels, propeller / rotor blades and deicing boots.

Apply to new, nearly-new or restored surfaces only (i.e. clean, uncontaminated, oxidation-free and wax-free). For contaminated or oxidised surfaces, clean and restore the finish with Re-Structure Micro-Finishing Compound (as a preparatory treatment), before following-up with an application of Re-Structure Professional Polish (Sealant).

Directions: Wash and dry vehicle / aircraft / watercraft thoroughly, before applying Professional Polish. These products should be used exclusively, as they are not suitable for mixing with other manufacturers wax or polymer based products.

Always work in the shade or out of direct sunlight (strong sunshine). It is best to apply the polish when surface is cool to the touch, otherwise the product may dry out too quickly, making application more difficult. Ideally, work indoors, in a cool, dry environment with good lighting and ventilation. It also prevents the sealant coating from getting wet while it cures. Avoid contact with porous plastic and rubber trim. If you get any polish on same, just wipe it off there and then.

Shake well before use. Re-Structure Professional Polish should be applied to a cool, clean, dry surface only.

Hand Application: Do not dampen your applicator pad before use. The pad should only be damp with product (not water) during application. Place a pea sized amount of polish (no more) on a soft foam applicator pad (the softer black side of our special tri-foam applicators). Work on a 1 ft x 1 ft area at a time. This will ensure the product does not dry out before you work it fully into the finish. Using light to moderate pressure, rub briskly in a circular motion. Move to another section and repeat the application process, using a pea sized amount of polish for every square foot of surface area. Finish one panel or area entirely (apply product and buff off any excess) before moving on to the next section.

Machine Application: Re-Structure Professional Polish (non-abrasive) may also be applied by dual-action polisher, fitted with a foam polishing pad or soft foam finishing pad (recommended). Use small amounts of polish and work on a 2 ft x 2 ft area at a time. Allow the machine to operate under its own weight, without exerting much downward pressure. Work the polish into the finish at low to moderate speeds only (using slow overlapping passes), until it disappears and a high-gloss shine is visible. Wipe off any excess product (polish residue) carefully as you go, with a soft microfibre buffing cloth. Move to another section and repeat the process.

Note: Please ensure Re-Structure products are applied to bare surfaces ... not on top of pre-existing sealant or wax based coatings.

When treating chrome, stainless steel, polished aluminium or other delicate surfaces, use a soft microfibre applicator pad or soft microfibre cloth instead. These are more suitable for polishing brightwork than foam. Apply the compound or polish using gentle motions only. Use a fresh, clean pad or cloth for each product; so there is no mix of compound and polish on the same applicator.

The RALG® molecular bonding process takes 24 hours to cure fully, after you have completed the last step. Try to avoid the sealant coating getting wet during this 24 hour period or for the first few hours (post application) at least.

Subsequent Applications - It is optional but advisable, to re-apply or top-up protection, every 12 to 18 months. Always wash and dry surfaces thoroughly before applying a renewal coating. Then, re-apply the sealant polish only (not compound), exactly as above. The polish can also be used as a one-step product for ongoing care and to fortify protection. Top up with additional coats periodically, to thicken surface protection. Please note, if using Micro Finishing Compound first, this will remove previous coat(s) of polish. Maintain the sealant coating with Re-Structure Mirasol sealant spray (optional). Wash (by hand) with a mild / pH balanced shampoo, one which does not contain wax.
